422 : The Rich Young Ruler

422 : The Rich Young Ruler

A certain ruler asked him, saying also, "Good Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?"
And Jesus said to him, "Why do you call me good?  There is none good but one, that is, God.
 You know the commandments:
 Do not commit adultery.
Do not kill.
 Do not steal.
Do not bear false witness.
Honour they father and mother."
And he answered and said to Jesus, "Master, all these things I have observed from my youth."
Then Jesus looking at him, loved him, and said to him,
"One thing you lack: Go your way, sell whatever you have, and give to the poor,
and you shall have treasure in heaven. Then come, take up the cross, and follow me."
The young man was sad at these words, and went away grieved. For he had great possessions.

And Jesus looked round about, and said to his disciples, "How hard it shall be for them that have riches to enter into the kingdom of God!"

The disciples were astonished at his words, but Jesus answered again and said to them,
"Children how hard it is for them that trust in riches to enter into the kingdom of God !
It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God."
They were astonished beyond measure, and said among themselves, "Who then can be saved?"
And Jesus looking upon them said, "With men it is impossible, but not with God.
For with God all things are possible."
Then Peter said, "Behold, we have forsaken all and followed you. What shall we have therefore?"
And Jesus said to them: "Truly I say to you which have followed me that,
in the day when the Son of man shall sit in the throne of his glory, you also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.
And everyone that has forsaken houses, or brothers, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children,
or lands, for my name's sake, shall receive a hundredfold, and shall inherit everlasting life.
"But many that are first shall be last, and the last shall be first.
